Terms

The laws below are enforced in the code. They are repeated here so they bind us, not only describe us.

Who holds your registration

Domains are registered through Tucows Domains Inc. (OpenSRS), the sponsoring registrar. Scopeweb is a reseller and is not an ICANN-accredited registrar.

Your registration is sponsored by Tucows and governed by ICANN's registrant policies. Two things worth reading before you buy anything from anyone: ICANN's Registrant Educational Materials and your Registrant Rights and Benefits.

Pricing

Prices are identical for all buyers. We will not vary a price by who is asking, what budget they have declared, or what we know about their urgency. A budget affects what we recommend and how results are ordered; it never affects cost.

A premium name is quoted at its real price or refused. We will not quote you a TLD's base rate for a name that does not cost it.

An expired quote is re-quoted, never honoured. Quotes hold for 15 minutes.

Renewal prices are stated before purchase, and where we cannot price a renewal we say unknown rather than showing you a number we made up.

Refusals

We will not sell you a name we cannot confirm is available. If no authoritative registry answers, the verdict is unknown and we refuse to quote. Unregistered is not the same as purchasable, and we say so every time.

We state what a registry does not support. Where WHOIS privacy is unavailable for an extension, you are told before you spend, not after.

Agents propose. Humans spend.

This is binding, not a slogan. No API scope authorises a purchase, and none will be added. An application acting for you may price a name; only you can buy one, on a confirmation page in your own browser, where you type the domain to approve it.

The same applies to ownership: changing the registrant of a domain requires an owner role, a human credential, and a fresh typed confirmation. Automated credentials are refused outright.

Custody and leaving

Domains registered through us are registered with you as the legal registrant, held in our reseller account. Once the 60-day inter-registrar lock ends you may transfer to any registrar, free, and we will not ask why or make you talk to anyone.

Drafts can be exported to a GitHub repository you own, complete, at any time.

If you cannot reach us

Everything above assumes we answer. This paragraph is for when we do not.

Your domain does not depend on us existing. It is sponsored by Tucows Domains Inc. (IANA 69), an ICANN-accredited registrar. Scopeweb is a reseller. If this operation stopped tomorrow your registration would remain in the registry, renewable, with your registrant data inside Tucows' escrow deposit rather than only in our database. Nobody loses a name because we go quiet.

What you would lose is access, and that is the part worth preparing for. ICANN's continuity machinery is registrar data escrow, which releases when a registrar's agreement ends. There is no equivalent for a reseller going quiet, because ICANN has no relationship with one. So the plan cannot be a process someone else runs. It has to be something you already hold.

Get your authorisation code now, before you need it. One authorised call to GET /domains/<your-domain>/auth-code returns it. There is no retention screen, no "are you sure", and nothing to cancel, by deliberate design. With that code and your domain unlocked you can move the name to any registrar without us, by starting the transfer at the registrar you are moving to. The 60-day inter-registrar lock after registration is a registry rule and applies wherever you go.

The case that actually loses a name is an unreachable reseller and an approaching renewal. An auth code you already hold turns that from an emergency into an inconvenience. It is also the thing a reseller has a commercial incentive not to hand you, which is the reason to take it while everything is calm.

What we have not established: what Tucows would actually do with a reseller's orphaned customers. We did not obtain their process and we are not going to guess at it here. Tucows publishes registrant-facing policies at tucowsdomains.com/help/legal-policies/, and their current contact details are on ICANN's registrar record for IANA 69. We have not tested either route on your behalf, and saying so is more use to you than a reassurance we cannot back.

What we are not

Not a trademark clearance service. Not legal advice. Not tax advice — swapping domains can be a taxable event and we are not your accountant. Nothing here predicts search ranking.
